Our firm has been retained to find a Vice President of Human Resources for North America’s largest manufacturer of equipment used to collect, process, and transport solid, liquid and recycled waste materials. Our client seeks a strong human resources leader and manager to oversee the HR operations of this highly profitable, private equity-backed company.
Our client offers the most comprehensive product line in its target markets, including a wide variety of steel collection containers, plastic residential containers, hoists, compactors, bailers, tarpers, frac tanks, vehicle-mounted vacuum units, parts and services. The company manufactures over 200 SKUs used in a number of environments, including factories, residential complexes, retail chains, restaurants, and construction and demolition sites.
The company services more than 5,000 customers across the U.S. including national, regional and local waster haulers, municipalities, rental companies and big box retail chains. In addition, our client operates 28 manufacturing facilities and has more than 1,300 employees and revenues in excess of $300MM. This highly profitable company is backed by one of the world’s leading middle-market private equity investment firms.
Based in Charlotte, N.C. and an integral member of the company’s management team, the Vice President of Human Resources will be responsible for providing strategic leadership and expert advice to senior management on all HR issues. He/she will develop policy and will direct and coordinate all HR activities including employment, compensation, benefits, performance management, training, unemployment, employee relations, and workforce planning across the organization. The successful candidate will guide and lead a team of HR personnel across the company to ensure the HR programs and processes are integrated and coordinated in a manner that enables our client to achieve its strategic and operational goals. Candidate qualifications include:
• a minimum of fifteen years of progressively responsible experience within HR for a growing, multi-location, manufacturing company; at least five years of this experience will have been in a management role; the successful candidate may already occupy the #1 human resources slot within her/his company, or may be a #2 depending on the size of the organization;
• a generalist foundation in all aspects of HR with demonstrated success leading recruitment, retention, training and development programs, and human resources policy, strategy and processes; the ability to facilitate organizational transformations; a human resources generalist with a significant exposure to organizational development; comprehensive knowledge of labor and employment law (OSHA, EEO, ERISA, wage and hour) and how to address employee relations issues with employees and management,
• solid leadership and managerial skills; a strong organizational leader with the ability to ensure that vision and strategies are translated into action; ability to build a strong culture and team environment; proven consulting and coaching skills; ability to help develop training programs and mentor managers, assist in developing management meetings, and facilitate sessions on key human resources topics;
• strategic and creative thinker; will take the time to understand the organization and have the situational savvy to effectively solve problems and roll out new and “out of the box” programs, etc; must keep up-to-date on the latest human resources best practices and theories and how they can be applied to our client's company;
• a highly professional presence and great people skills; must have a personal style that suggests he/she will be effective in dealing with the management and able to persuasively present to a board of directors and the corporate leadership team; excellent presentation and communications savvy;
• infectious enthusiasm, self-confidence and high energy level; low need for personal limelight; a good listener with a sense of humor; and
• a degree from an accredited four-year college, preferably in human resources, business or a related field; an MBA or Masters Degree in human resource management would be a plus.
