Our firm has been retained to conduct the search for a Senior Director – Health Information Management (HIM) for a not-for profit, integrated healthcare system  that serves more than 3.5 million people in the Carolinas and Virginia.  Ranked as one of our nation’s 10 best healthcare systems, our client has revenues of approximately $3B and employs more than 22,000, including a 950-physician medical group that is still growing.  Overall growth has been significant over the last few years.  The system has nine hospitals and another two scheduled for construction.  In addition to the hospitals and physician practices, other facilities and programs include: two nursing homes, outpatient surgery centers, community health outreach programs and a national organization with 92 diagnostic imaging centers in 13 states.

The Senior Director will contribute to the development of strategic direction for HIM operations including: transcription, coding, deficiency management, release of information, medical record maintenance and retention, and Master Patient Index maintenance at all facilities.  He/she will directly supervise Regional Assistance Directors responsible for management of onsite Health Information Management and will indirectly lead the entire function for Onsite Health Information Management services including the managers and supervisors responsible for line level, day-to-day functions.

Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Finance, the successful candidate will possess the following:

•  significant experience as a HIM Director or Assistant Director in an acute care hospital; experience in a multi-hospital system is preferred;

•  demonstrated experience managing DNFB and strategic development initiatives, including technology implementations, within a multi-hospital system;
•  a bachelor’s degree in HIM with RHIA credentials; a masters degree is a plus.
