Our firm has been retained to recruit the President of the Georgia Division for one of the largest commercial construction firms in the U.S. Based in Atlanta, GA, the successful candidate will provide leadership to the Georgia Division – which includes surrounding states – and be responsible for assessing and overseeing all aspects of the business which includes direction of the business, strategy to get it there, and leadership to make it sustainable. The President will serve as a member of the Southeast Region’s Executive Leadership Team and will be a broad-gauged executive who has the business orientation and leadership of a general manager and is comfortable with the technical operational side of the business.
Reporting to the Southeast Regional CEO, the successful candidate will be an entrepreneur at heart and will be energized by the opportunity to build the business and team in Atlanta. The opportunity to utilize the resources, support and platform of the company will give the President a significant advantage in the marketplace.
Qualifications include:
• 10+ years’ experience in commercial construction, the majority of which will be in the Atlanta market; a generalist with experience in one or all of the Education, Corporate Office, Retail, Government and Healthcare sectors;
• Atlanta market knowledge; will possess the market knowledge of an Atlanta native and be respected and well-known in the appropriate circles in the public/private sector, particularly in the above-mentioned markets;
• excellent leadership and managerial skills; the ability to create an environment where people can motivate themselves and succeed; for example: define roles clearly, raise expectations, move talented people into their ideal positions, and hold people accountable for results; will have developed others over the course of their career; will be recognized as a “servant leader” who takes pride in seeing others grow and succeed;
• process and detail driven with significant analytical skills; will be proficient in financial and operational analysis; must have demonstrated a facility for reaching sound business decisions after reviewing available information; also skilled at developing new information as necessary; • people orientation; a knack for working and communicating well with a broad range of individuals – both internally and externally; a good listener who is approachable; able to stay in a problem-solving mode to negotiate through conflict with ease; must be comfortable relating to senior-level clients. as well as front line employees and subcontractor leadership; must be able to rigorously assess the performance of key managers against the mission, vision and values in a timely manner and provide effective “coaching”;
• sales and operational abilities; the ability to maintain both a business development and operations mindset; must be comfortable with the details of the business and possess the ability to manage risk across multiple projects; able to plan for, and manage staff needs in accordance with market growth plans; impeccable follow-up skills; • excellent communication and presentation skills; will come across as authentic with a clear lack of pretense; candidates must have demonstrated superior written and verbal skills; will be effective in building strong partnerships and credibility in all levels within and outside the company;
• an entrepreneurial spirit; will be a proactive, energetic seller/doer, capable of assessing the market, devising and executing the plan to build the business; capable of building the team as they grow the business;
• an undergraduate, four-year degree, preferably in construction, engineering or a related field; an MBA or another advanced degree would be a plus.
