Director of Advanced Research and Development

Our firm has been retained by a national not-for-profit educational services organization to assist in their search for the Director of Advanced Research and Development (ARAD).

Founded in 1977, our client provides research-based educational growth measures, professional training, classroom resources, and consulting services to improve teaching and learning.  Partnering with school districts, states, and other education organizations, our client delivers computerized assessments to more than 3,400 education agencies and approximately 4 million students every year.

Its Growth Research Database, the most extensive collection of student growth data in the country, provides a rich resource for the study of academic achievement.  Its new Spark Community is an online forum for partners to share experiences and to help shape continuing research.

Reporting to the Vice President of Research & Development, the successful candidate will be responsible for directing and managing the five-person ARAD team that creates, researches and validates new ideas for products and services.  These include new test types and features, innovative item styles, and new reports. He/she will also work closely with Executive Management and Product Development teams.

The successful candidate must demonstrate:

•   at least 10 years of experience in computer-based test development; a significant portion will have been in progressive management and leadership roles;

•   the ability to develop and manage complex, interdisciplinary projects; the skills necessary to balance and prioritize multiple initiatives, timetables and deadlines;

•   excellent communications and interpersonal skills; a team builder who can facilitate strong partnerships and collaborations; someone who inspires trust and respect;

•   a bent for taking responsibility, moving ahead and encouraging others; high energy level;

•   a passion for kids and the difference that research-based instruction and assessment can make;

•   graduate degree preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

This is a unique opportunity to make a difference.  Competitive compensation, an excellent benefits package and relocation assistance are available.
