Our firm has been retained by a private equity-backed, full service, turn-key provider of private brand organic products to recruit their COO. Primary product lines are organic pourable or spoonable dressings (fresh and shelf-stable), sauces, condiments, and marinades. Our client counts some of the top companies in the natural foods channel in its active and satisfied customer base. Reporting to the company’s CEO, the COO will be responsible for providing strategic direction, leadership, and oversight of the company’s operations. The position oversees all aspects of manufacturing operations. Direct reports include Production Team Leaders, Quality Assurance, R&D, Maintenance, and HR.
Key qualifications include:
• a minimum of 10 years’ manufacturing operations management experience in a complex, batch process, food manufacturer – ideally, one with multiple ingredients and SKUs; candidates with similar backgrounds in the pharmaceutical industry will also be considered;
• a track record of improving and streamlining the full spectrum of operations; will possess a sound understanding of complex, batch manufacturing principles from end to end; experience implementing Lean manufacturing and/or Six Sigma is required;
• a hands-on, lead-by-example leader who has the bent for taking responsibility, moving ahead and encouraging others; must have the self-confidence, integrity, intellect, and perseverance that inspires trust and confidence;
• financial acumen; the successful candidate must be completely comfortable with the “numbers”; must have a track record of developing and implementing operating metrics, policies, and procedures;
• excellent communications and interpersonal skills; a culture and team builder who will be effective in building strong partnerships and credibility at all levels of the company, as well as with customers, strategic partners, and investors;
• strong organizational/administrative skills; will be a hands-on manager, someone who is not afraid to get into the detail; a person who enjoys a small company atmosphere; will have a spirit of pitching in to get the job done; and be comfortable in an environment with lean staffing;
• BS or BA Degree in Engineering, Business or a related field required, an MBA is desirable,
