One of the largest manufacturers of concrete pipe and other concrete products in the western United States has retained our firm to help in their search for a Chief Financial Officer.  The company is seeking a bright, hardworking finance professional with the ability to quickly become a key member of its executive management team and assist in its aggressive growth goals.

The company manufactures concrete pipes, manhole covers, retaining walls and other architectural, structural, utility and drainage products.  The company serves a diverse customer base throughout the western U.S., with customers ranging from local and regional commercial and residential construction companies to departments of transportation.  This highly profitable company with multiple plant locations will continue to expand through a combination of organic growth and strategic acquisitions.

Reporting to the President and working closely with the Board of Directors, the successful candidate will play an integral role in achieving the company’s growth and expansion goals.  Qualifications include:

•   a minimum of 15 years of financial management experience; the ideal candidate will have been a CFO or strong #2 in a small to medium-sized ($50MM to $1B) fast-growing, private equity/venture capital backed manufacturing company;       

•   a successful track record of working with commercial bankers in a highly leveraged environment; experience working for a private equity/venture-backed company is a must; will have participated and/or led financing and M&A and integration efforts; must be adept at presenting his/her ideas orally and in writing to financial audiences; will be comfortable negotiating and monitoring covenant terms; an excellent negotiator who is experienced in contracts;

•   financial acumen and significant analytical skills; will have strong operational accounting and financial reporting skills; will have demonstrated a grasp of cost accounting and taxes and have an intuitive sense about costs, growing revenues and EBITDA; will be proficient in cash flow forecasting, financial modeling and developing information reporting tools;

•   a strategic and business development mindset; an entrepreneurial spirit; one who can think outside the box to find ways to profitably grow a company;

•   detail and results orientation; will set high goals and must be accustomed to rolling up his/her sleeves and getting into the detail; will be comfortable in an environment with relatively few financial support personnel;

•   a team player with contagious enthusiasm and energy; affability; must be a person who likes people; heads-down, green-eye-shade accountants need not apply; must be fully capable of interacting effectively with the company’s employees, major customers and suppliers, the Board of Directors, lawyers, investors, and bankers; and

• a Bachelor’s degree from a respected institution; a CPA and/or MBA is a strong plus.
